Six months of darkness at Canacona bus stand
Canacona: Street lights at the Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) bus stand in Chaudi, Canacona, have remained non-functional for six months, raising safety concerns, especially among women commuters arriving late in the evening. Local motorcycle pilots, rickshaw drivers, and shopkeepers said the darkness poses a risk, adding that even the recently installed TV screens have stopped working.Taxi driver Manoj Komarpant said functioning street lights are vital for safety and visibility for both pedestrians and motorists, as non-functional lights increase the risk of accidents. Councillor Dheeraj Naik Gaonkar urged authorities to restore the lights immediately and strengthen police presence at the bus stand to prevent vandalism, theft, and stalking.Women passengers also appealed to the govt to address the issue urgently, saying proper lighting and regular police patrols would make the area safer and more comfortable for all commuters.
